Welcome to FLX Farmhouse Soaps, where every bar of soap is not just a product but a story of tradition, nature, and a deep connection to the Finger Lakes region. Through our handcrafted soaps, we aim to share a slice of our world, a piece of our farm, and the scents embodying the Finger Lakes's rich agricultural heritage.
The Heart of Our Soaps: The Farm Bar Blend
Our signature Farm Bar Blend is a testament to our commitment to quality and tradition. This unique formulation is a tribute to the land we call home, its history, and its bountiful gifts. Here's a glimpse into the natural ingredients that make our soaps so special:
- Tallow: An incredibly moisturizing and sustainable ingredient, tallow gives the soap a creamy lather and longer-lasting qualities.
- Lard: Like tallow, lard contributes to the soap's creamy lather and moisturizing properties. It creates a gentle bar suitable even for sensitive skin types.
- Grapeseed Oil: A nod to the vineyards that pepper the Finger Lakes, grapeseed oil is light and non-comedogenic. It is rich in Vitamin E, offering antioxidant benefits for your skin.
- Castor Oil: Known for its hydrating properties, castor oil adds to the soap's lathering capabilities, ensuring you get luxurious, big bubbles while washing.
- Olive Oil: An all-time favorite in skincare, olive oil adds nourishing vitamins and antioxidants. It's gentle on the skin and offers deep moisturizing effects.
- Coconut Oil: This oil lends a hard, sturdy structure to the soap and a delightful, bubbly lather. It's also packed with fatty acids known for their skin-nourishing properties.
- Cocoa Butter: Cocoa butter adds an extra layer of moisturizing richness. It’s well-known for its ability to hydrate and nourish the skin, and its fats create a protective barrier over the skin to hold in moisture.
The Farm Bar results from countless hours of research and experimentation, all aimed at paying homage to the Finger Lakes' rich agricultural history and creating a bar of soap nourishing for the skin. We painstakingly sourced local ingredients where we could, fine-tuned proportions, and tweaked formulations to achieve a soap that is not only luxurious but also deeply connected to the land we love.
Our Farm: A Legacy of Love and Perseverance
Nestled in the rolling drumlins of the Finger Lakes Region of Upstate New York, our small family farm is a living testament to a 66-year legacy. Here, we raise black Angus beef cattle, grow sweet corn, market vegetables, and field crops. Our farm is not just a backdrop to our family's story; it's the heart of our existence.
A Sustainable Practice: Crafting Soap from Farm to Bar
The spirit of FLX Soap Co. springs from a desire to utilize every resource our farm provides. We began crafting small batches of soap using tallow from our own farm-raised cattle. This practice ensures that every part of the cow is honored, transforming what was once discarded into something beautiful and nourishing for the skin.
Community Involvement: Strengthening Local Ties
At FLX Farmhouse Soaps, our connection to the community is a core part of our identity. Jennifer is proud to be a member of Historic Palmyra, contributing to preserving and celebrating our local heritage. My husband, passionately involved in the Palmyra Community Center, serves on the board, helping to foster a sense of community and support for our local families.
Our participation in local craft shows and farm markets is more than just a business endeavor. It's an opportunity to engage with and contribute to various local communities. These events allow us to meet our neighbors, share our stories, and build lasting relationships outside of business.
